Antique Gilt Bronze Sèvres Porcelain Mantel Clock / Raingo Frères & Sèvres Paris
-
Description
An exceptional early 19th-century French mantel clock by Raingo Frères, in collaboration with Sèvres, one of France’s most celebrated porcelain manufacturers. Created in Paris circa 1825, this exquisite timepiece exemplifies the opulence, artistry, and precision craftsmanship of the French Empire and early Romantic periods. The clock features a finely cast gilt bronze case with intricate foliate motifs and sculptural detailing throughout. Its architectural form is crowned by a domed top adorned with a pineapple finial and seated cherub, symbols of prosperity and classical beauty. Four elegant winged caryatids frame the structure, lending it a sense of grandeur and verticality. Set within the gilt bronze are exceptional hand-painted Sèvres porcelain panels, richly decorated with bouquets of flowers and playful cherubs in soft, harmonious tones of pink, green, purple, orange, and yellow—all set against a vibrant turquoise ground. The artistry and palette are both romantic and refined, characteristic of the finest Sèvres work of the period.
The porcelain dial features delicate Roman numerals, elegant gilt hands, and a glazed cover. Housed within is a brass 8-day time and strike movement, signed “Raingo Frères, Paris”, known for its superior mechanics and fine horology. It stands approximately 14.5" high x 7.5" wide x 6" deep. In great antique condition with minor wear consistent with age.
A magnificent and rare collector’s piece, this clock is a testament to the grandeur of 19th-century French decorative arts—equally at home in a fine mantel display, formal salon, or curated interior. -
