Carlo Zauli, Large decorative plate in stoneware, Faenza, Italy, 1978
-
Description
Starting in the early 1960s, Carlo Zauli abandoned the production of functional ceramic objects, favoring pure abstraction. He returned to creating plates and vases in the 1970s, but only as a means of experimenting with materials (particularly stoneware), glazes, and color pigments. The large plate/sculpture we present dates back to around 1978. It is a large decorative stoneware plate with a decorative motif in yellow and brown colored clay applied to a white Zauli base. The effect achieved is similar to that of ceramist Nanni Valentini in his clay-on-paper works from the same period. The plate is large and can be hung thanks to the holes drilled into the back, which are attached to steel cables. A white wooden panel, probably the original, with a hole in the center, is also available, which can be used as a support for hanging the plate on a wall. The plate is signed on the back.
