An elegant French 19th century gold gilt mantel mirror with original mirror glass. The arched molding is classic Louis Philippe, traced by a foliate motif that is quite subtle under the patches of oxidation and patina to reveal the red bole substrate underneath. Hazy foxing adds a painterly quality to the reflection; the result is a surprisingly organic effect of tactile variety with a faint metallic shimmer, drawing the viewer in for a closer look.
