French 19th Century Louis Philippe Silver Gilt Mantel Mirror
-
Description
Dimensions: 58 ⅜” H x 39 ¼” W x 1 ⅞” D
A dramatic French 19th century silver gilt mantel mirror with original mirror glass revealing curious patterns of foxing. The arched molding is classic Louis Philippe, incorporating a trellised motif that is quite subtle under the patches of dark oxidation and patina to the silver leaf. Streaks of foxing add a painterly quality to the reflection; the result is a surprisingly organic effect of tactile variety with a faint metallic shimmer, drawing the viewer in for a closer look.
