Lisa-Johansson Pape Beehive and Flowers Ceiling Lamp, Orno / Karhula 1940s
-
Description
A decorative Art Deco ceiling pendant by the celebrated Finnish designer Lisa Johansson-Pape. This exquisite three-arm fixture features sculptural patinated brass arms, which exhibit a rough textured metal mixture characteristic of the war era, adding to its unique charm and historical character.
Each arm terminates with a beautifully crafted, mouth-blown opaline glass shade. These were produced in beehive-shaped wooden molds at the renowned Karhula glass factory, the legendary manufacturer behind the first Alvar Aalto Savoy vases. The shades are elegantly adorned with delicate pressed glass flower decorations on the center of the lamp.
Dating to the 1940s, this pendant is a beautiful piece of design history. Its construction reflects the resourcefulness of the period, contributing to its distinct and authentic patina. The interior retains its original wooden component, which bears a faded Orno Oy manufacturer's stamp, further attesting to its provenance.
Lisa Johansson-Pape (1907–1989) was a pioneering figure in Scandinavian design, best known for her lighting works that prioritized function without compromising on beauty. She designed for the Stockmann-owned company Orno Oy and was awarded multiple medals for her designs at the Milan Triennials in the 1950s. This pendant is a superb example of her iconic work, blending robust construction with elegant, diffused lighting. - More Information
