Gunnel Nyman Pendant 51057, Brass, Wood & Paper String Shades Idman 1940s
-
Description
Early and rare model 51057 chandelier designed by Gunnel Nyman for Idman in the 1940s. This striking piece features five classically decorated cast brass arms pertruding from a green painted wooden center. The shades are paper shades with string details sitting on glass bases. A true classical gem by one of the biggest names in Finnish design.
Gunnel Nyman (1909 – 1948) was a Finnish glass, furniture and metal artist, and one of the founders of modern Finnish glass design. She was also one of the biggest names in the Finnish modern design movement of the early 20th century. Unfortunately, due to her premature death at 39, and even though she managed to design numerous beautiful objects, she also left us with a sense of owe and wonder to what she could've designed with a longer career. -
