Antique Italian painting from the 17th century, Holy Family
-
Description
A splendid 17th-century religious painting. Artwork oil on canvas depicts the Holy Family, with Mary, Joseph, and the baby Jesus. The Madonna's face is inclined toward her son, while Jesus lies asleep in a pose reminiscent of Michelangelo's Pietà, with his arm hanging down as a prefiguration of Christ's death.
The sleeping Jesus is therefore not merely a childlike image, but also evokes his destiny as a Passion. The devotional composition and the pictorial rendering recall central and northern Italian painting from the second half of the 17th century. This artwork of undeniable charm is perfect for a collector of fine religious art or as a decorative piece with a strong emotional impact.
Given its compact size, it is suitable for various spaces in the home, whether classic or contemporary. A 19th-century frame in carved and gilded wood shows various signs of aging. The painting has already been restored with re-lining, replacement of the stretcher, and restoration of the color in some areas. Overall, it is in good condition. Internal dimensions: H 65 x W 47 cm. - More Information
