Adjustable Art Deco Floor Lamp, Scandinavia First half of the 20th Century

$ 3,563
  • Description
    During the early 20th century, Scandinavian design began moving toward a new visual language that merged classical craftsmanship with modernist ideals. The Art Deco period played a role in shaping this evolution, introducing a sense of refinement and geometry that balanced luxury with restraint. In Scandinavia, this aesthetic was translated through classic materials and subtle detailing, resulting in objects that combined decorative harmony with functionality.

    This adjustable floor lamp embodies a refined sensibility with its graceful and versatile design. Crafted in beautiful polished brass, the lamp features a slender stem rising from a circular weighted base, allowing the height to be easily adjusted. The elegantly curved upper part is finished with a finely detailed joint. The piece supports a conical fabric shade that casts a soft, focused light. The brass surface develops a warm patina over time, giving the piece depth and character without diminishing its refined silhouette. Additionally, the subtle geometric elements along the stem offer the lamp the perfect ornament, while maintaining its elegance. Every line is considered, from the gentle sweep of the neck to the base. The use of quality materials and the quintessential Scandinavian functionality suggest the work of a skilled maker who understood both the mechanical and aesthetic aspects of design.

    Charming yet understated, this lamp captures the transition from decorative Art Deco toward the quieter modernism that would come to define Scandinavian interiors in the decades that followed. Its blend of detail and utility feels timeless, a reminder of how design from this period elevated everyday objects into enduring works of art.
