Description
A set of four 18th century armchairs attributed to Francois Herve with carved and gilt frames having newly upholstered seats and backs in fresh sky-blue linen. Frames with carved reeding to the shaped top rail, sides and seat rails, separately mounted fluted columns along back uprights, sloping and elbowed arms, with sabred back legs and fluted-column front legs, with decorative floral pateras to corners, all gilded. English, circa 1790. Ex-Dick Turpin Antiques. Francois Herve was an 18th century London furniture maker who undertook commissions at Chatsworth, Althorp and Carlton House, among others, and is known for the slender elegance of his furniture designs.
