Brighton Bun Campaign Candlesticks

$ 975
  • Description
    Good pair of English brass "Brighton Bun" traveling candlesticks, having removable candle sockets which thread into the dished base. When not in use, the pair compact to a bun shaped vessel with the candle sockets safely stowed inside.
    First made in the mid 18th Century, "Brighton Buns" remained popular with military officers and explorers until the early part of the 20th Century. Probably named after a now forgotten regional pastry, Brighton Buns were first made in cast bronze or brass, such as this pair. Later, with advances in the manufacturing process, pressed metals were incorporated for lighter weight, always essential for extended campaigns whether in battle or exploration.
