The surface radiates outward in fine, hand-drawn linear patterning that feels both cosmic and aquatic—Davidson’s signature interplay of movement, depth, and light.

Annemarie Davidson was a central figure in the California mid-century enameling movement, working alongside other studio craft pioneers who helped elevate enamel from simple decoration to expressive fine art. Trained at UCLA and deeply influenced by the postwar craft renaissance, Davidson developed a distinctive visual language: jewel-like color palettes, radiating textures, and hand-applied resist techniques that create the shimmering “ghosted” forms seen here. Her work remains highly collected for its artistry, vibrancy, and technical mastery.

This particular plate is an uncommon variation of the “Ghostline” motif, featuring the rarer inclusion of white enamel elements that punctuate and highlight the composition. The effect is luminous and dimensional—almost like viewing coral forms or constellations through deep water.
