A refined 17th-century chest of drawers from central Italy, crafted in solid walnut and veneered with beautifully figured walnut surfaces. The façade is enriched with delicate maple inlays, creating elegant linear frames and stylized corner motifs that emphasize the geometry and balance of the design. The warm, layered patina speaks to centuries of care and use, giving the piece depth and quiet presence rather than artificial sheen. The chest retains its original hardware throughout, including the distinctive “ace of spades” keyhole escutcheons, a characteristic detail of the region and period. Four full-width drawers offer generous storage while preserving a clean, architectural silhouette. The base features shaped brackets that lighten the piece visually and provide a subtle sense of lift. This is a commode of substance and restraint—functional, noble, and timeless.
