Rural Alpine Cupboard, France, 19th Century
-
Description
This 19th-century pine confiturier from Savoie is a fine example of rural alpine folk art furniture. Made in solid pine, it features a simple framed door, straight stiles, and plain sides resting on a low plinth base. Its sober, functional design reflects its original purpose: storing food and preserves in traditional mountain homes. The surface shows age-appropriate wear and small wood splits consistent with its long history. A beautiful, honest piece of alpine vernacular craftsmanship.
