In Depth:
There is perhaps no name as prolific as Paul McCobb in the world of American modern design. His influence shaped the visual language of mid-century living, whether through his own work or the many contemporaries who looked to his disciplined and elegant style for inspiration. Diminutive, simple, and refined are all words that define McCobb’s approach. His impact remains so strong that Crate & Barrel’s CB2 brand recently licensed and reproduced several of his most recognizable designs.
This pair of nightstands, designed by Paul McCobb for Calvin Furniture of Grand Rapids, embodies everything that makes a McCobb creation distinctive. Each piece has been meticulously restored by our team.
The design is minimalist, elevated on four visually delicate yet structurally durable legs, and offers thoughtful storage through a wide drawer and a generous double-door cabinet. Both stands retain their original McCobb pulls, a detail the designer was known for, and the subtle patina of their original brass plating has been intentionally preserved to attest to the age and authenticity of the pair. The mahogany cases have been completely refinished and lightened to a more contemporary tone. Inside, their deep drawers and spacious cabinets provide practical functionality, and each cabinet includes an adjustable and removable shelf. The backs of the stands are fully finished, which allows them to serve beautifully as nightstands or as end tables in a living space. As a final touch of authenticity, each nightstand carries its original Paul McCobb for Calvin tag. -

Based in Connecticut, USA; we partner with a network of local artisans to restore and refine our findings before passing them on to the next collector.
