Description
Legendary Life Magazine Art Director and Illustrator Charles Tudor depicts a vibrant 1930s Automobile Exhibition. In the background, four onlookers are shown studying a vehicle. At the same time, the foreground looks more like the entrance to a high-end Prohibition-era Speakeasy, with a tuxedoed maître d'hôtel screening guests. Tudor's technique is highly stylized, combining Cubism and Art Deco. For the viewers, it's a treat to examine the picture and figure out what a face, a hand, and a coat are. Enclosed in a roped-off area, four circular shapes are the wheels of the car. Every part of this picture puzzle reveals an abstract shape, becoming a relevant element that demonstrates the artist's extraordinary imagination. Signed and dated lower right and framed under glass. Frame size 23 x 21 - Production inscriptions on verso indicate the work was most likely published. Drawn onto light buff-toned paper
