Crucifixion of Jesus Christ with Divine Light in Store Window
-
Description
While walking past an antique store in New York's Lower East Side, Photographer Mitchell Funk was struck by a fleeting burst of divine light striking a gold crucifix of Jesus Christ. Since Funk always travels with a camera in hand, he seized the moment. With only seconds to execute, he whipped out his Nikon and snapped this unique moment of a starburst bouncing off the cross. The light symbolizes the spiritual illumination of God's presence. On the edge of the cross, rays emanate outward, connecting heaven and earth with Divine Mercy. A large, red diagonal wedge frames the cross and symbolizes Jesus's blood and sacrifice. The overall image is quite abstract, with a harmonious, perfect society of color, and with all compositional elements leading the eye to the cross.
The work is signed dated and numbered 3/15 lower right recto, with other sizes available, 40 x 60 and it's unframed and printed later. Printed on Hahnemühle Fine Art paper
