Multiple Exposure of the Chrysler Building in Bright Colors
-
Description
Bathed in bright, bold colors, "Multiple Exposure of the Chrysler Building, 1971" represents a pioneering use of multiple exposure in color photography. In fact, Mitchell Funk invented the technique of applying different colored gels over each exposure in 1970. It was done over 50 years ago on Kodachrome film and laid the groundwork for others to do similar things in digital photography. This work employs a maximalist approach to color. Giving the image a semi-abstract look that emphasizes the process and inner psyche over external reality, as practiced in Abstract Expressionism.
The image is part of a new epic exhibition, Mitchell Funk Photographs The Chrysler Building for 50 Years.
The Chrysler Building is one of the most photographed buildings in the world. Yet Mitchell Funk's photographs of it are anything but a tourist snapshot. For over 50 years, Funk has been celebrating and rediscovering it visually in a way that exemplifies the innovative spirit of its creators.
The work is signed dated and numbered 3/15 lower right recto, with other sizes available, 40 x 60 , and it's unframed and printed later. Printed on Hahnemühle Fine Art paper
