Description
Large, imposing original Biedermeier secretaire from south Germany around 1830.
Cherry veneered on softwood and solid cherry. Solid cherry solid columns with carved Corinthian capitals. Protruding plinth drawer ‚Karnies’ curve and butterfly veneer. Cast brass knobs and fittings. Iron locks and keys.
Interior fittings in maple wood with elaborate inlays in ebony (probably bog oak) and pewter inlays on drawers and base. Inner frame ebonized and 2 full ebonized columns around the rear mirrored (original glass) free compartment. As well as a continuous lower drawer in root wood veneer and tiered.
Later re-dated and provided with an emblem, probably by a new owner (Schirmer 1846). (According to the design, the furniture has probably been built a bit earlier around 1830). Also visible through darker maple wood on the top inner drawer.
