Edra Aster Papposus Sofa by Fernando & Humberto Campana, Italy, 2006
-
Description
The Aster Papposus sofa is an iconic sculptural seating piece designed in 2006 by Fernando and Humberto Campana for Edra. Composed of two complementary, intertwined volumes, it has no rigid internal structure and is formed entirely from polyurethane foam and down. The thick velvet upholstery, created exclusively by Edra for this model, gives the sofa a bristly yet exceptionally soft surface. Its organic, flower-like form allows for up to eight relaxed seating positions. With its dynamic appearance and generous proportions, this sofa is a true collector’s piece and an unmistakable conversation starter.
Fernando and Humberto Campana, known as the Campana Brothers, are among the most influential contemporary designers to emerge from Brazil. Based in São Paulo, they began collaborating in 1983, blending Humberto’s background in sculpture with Fernando’s architectural training. Their international breakthrough came with the Favela Chair (1991), followed by iconic designs such as the Vermelha Chair and Cone Chair. Their work is included in major museum collections worldwide, including MoMA in New York, and is celebrated for transforming everyday materials into expressive, experimental design. - More Information
