Description
1950s Gino Sarfatti Model #10 sconce for Arteluce in White
Executed in painted aluminum and custom fabricated period-styled brass backplates designed to mount over a standard American j-box for hardwiring. Ball jointed arm allows flexible shade adjustments and multiple configurations. Arteluce was one of the most innovative lighting design companies in Italy during the midcentury era. Their designs have been long sought after by collectors in the know.
Ref: Romanelli & Severi "Gino Sarfatti: 1938-1973, selected works" p. p. 386 + various configurations pp. 69 &151.
Originally designed between 1937-1941, the simplicity of Sarfatti's iconic Model #10 "detto Calla" or "Lily" shade design with its sculptural shape makes for an incredibly refined example of the lighting master's style. Salvaged from a midcentury building in Italy slated for demolition, these were originally configured in multi-shade half-rings that were mounted around pillars.
Price is per item. 12 each of white and green available. Four red and 5 black available. Local pickup available from Los Angeles.
Professionally rewired for US electrical. Professionally repainted with custom period-style backplate to accommodate a standard junction box. Accommodates a single max 40W equivalent e12 base candelabra bulb. Not UL listed, but recommended UL listing possible from authorized 3rd party vendor upon request for an additional fee. Wear consistent with age and use: some minor scuffs and dings; noted only for accuracy. Please note that one representative lamp of each color is photographed, but all lamps are in similar good vintage condition and present well in pairs or groupings. -
