Description
French Art Deco brass and mirror coffee table, attributed to Maison Baguès, Paris, circa 1920. Rectangular smoked mirror top set within brass frame. Base of faux bamboo brass construction with four corner legs united by slender X-form stretchers. Legs terminate in cast paw feet. The brass shows natural patination with verdigris accents characteristic of age. Maison Baguès, active in Paris from 1840s through mid-20th century, specialized in bronze lighting and furniture with distinctive naturalistic motifs. Faux bamboo designs gained prominence in French decorative arts during the Art Deco period, reflecting contemporary interest in Japonisme and exotic materials.
