Description
"PIRATE" CHROME STEEL AND LEATHER LOUNGE CHAIR
Designed by Elsa & Nordahl Solheim, Norway circa 1960s
Item # 209XGN17M
A rich and interesting vintage lounge chair designed by Elsa & Nordahl Solheim of Norway. It is a precise piece with great angular lines executed in layered heavy flat bars finished in polished chromed steel, all of which has been beautifully machined. The leather is probably original and in overall poor-to-fair condition - probably still serviceable, but it would look incredible if recovered. The leather is supported by canvas that is slung to the frame. The curvature and bounce of the steel make the chair remarkably comfortable.
We also may still have the matching chair together with its original footrest available in our inventory.
Measurements: 26 3/4" D x 34 7/8" H x 25" W; 18" H to seat [chair]
Condition Report:
Chrome polished and cleaned, pitting and spots of chrome loss in a few areas. Leather must be changed: it is in overall "poor-to-fair" condition, overall being a bit dry, having tears and cracking, some discoloration/other blemishes; the headrest ties are damaged and the headrest is affixed to the frame with some black leather lacing instead of the original wooden pegs; the canvas is in overall fair condition and works perfectly well to support the seat, but also has some wear/holes/blemish. -
