Description
A distinguished early 20th century American vase by Tiffany Studios, circa 1920, featuring a slender trumpet-form hand-blown Favrile glass top mounted on a patinated gilt bronze holding base. Favrile glass, patented by Louis Comfort Tiffany in 1894, was celebrated for its iridescence, created by blending metallic oxides directly into the molten glass. The result is a luminous surface that changes subtly depending on light and angle, a signature characteristic of Tiffany’s art glass.
The vase’s glass top is acid-etched and signed, while the gilt bronze base is stamped and numbered, confirming its production by Tiffany Studios and its authenticity. This combination of materials—luminous Favrile glass and richly detailed gilt bronze—exemplifies the innovative decorative art designs that Tiffany Studios was renowned for during the early 20th century.
Measuring approximately 14 inches high by 3 inches in diameter (36 × 8 cm), this vase is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. Minor wear consistent with age is present on the base, adding character while reflecting its century-long history.
A versatile and visually striking decorative object, this vase functions equally well as a centerpiece or accent piece and is an outstanding example of early 20th century American decorative arts, showcasing Tiffany Studios’ exceptional skill in glass and metalwork. -
