Pair of Finn Juhl NV53 Lounge Chairs in Rare Brazilian Rosewood

$ 52,000
  • Description
    Designed by Finn Juhl and executed by Niels Vodder, the master cabinet maker, was first introduced in 1953 for the Cabinetmakers’ Guild Exhibition, the NV53 chair is one of Finn Juhl's most coveted and sculptural lounge designs. These examples, in rare Rio Brazilian rosewood, showcase Juhl’s signature separation of the “carrying and carried” element. Juhl designs the frame as an independent sculptural object and then lets the upholstered “body” float inside or above it, hence " carrying and carried."

    Masterfully crafted from solid rosewood, the frame’s delicate transitions between rounded and sharp edges highlight the dramatic rosewood grain and give the chairs a striking presence from every angle. Generously proportioned and exceptionally comfortable, vintage NV53s in Brazilian rosewood are scarce and highly sought after, making these chairs ideal as a freestanding statement in refined residential or corporate interiors. Both chairs are marked with “Illums Bolighus København,” the name of the famous Danish design retailer in Copenhagen.

    Side note: The original upholstery did not do these exceptional chairs justice, so we have had them professionally reupholstered in a fine, durable Kravet fabric and refoamed to ensure many years of comfortable use. Please see the close-up of the fabric.
