Description
This sculptural wall panel is carved from solid wood and composed through a sequence of carefully modulated vertical and curved relief elements that together form a highly stylized human mask. The work demonstrates a strong sense of rhythm and depth, with the sculpted layers creating shifting expressions as the viewpoint changes. The interplay between abstraction and figuration places the piece firmly within the sculptural language of late modernism, where expressive form and material presence take precedence over literal representation.
The design suggests an origin in European studio craftsmanship of the late 1960s to 1970s, possibly influenced by Brutalist and Expressionist tendencies seen in postwar decorative arts. While the designer remains unidentified, the sculptural approach and emphasis on hand-carved structure are reminiscent of independent atelier production rather than industrial manufacture, reflecting a period interest in tactile materials and sculptural wall-mounted objects. - More Information
