French Art Nouveau Floral-Decorated Majolica Jardiniere with Tall Pedestal
-
Description
This exquisite French Art Nouveau majolica jardiniere and pedestal, crafted by Jean Massier Cie. of Vallauris around 1900, exemplifies the flowing lines and naturalistic motifs characteristic of the period. The jardiniere is designed in a bulbous flower form with a pierced petalled rim, hand-painted with vibrant red poppies in various stages of bloom set against a luminous turquoise ground. The accompanying pedestal features conforming floral decoration, creating a cohesive and elegant display. Both the jardiniere and pedestal are signed by the maker, attesting to their authenticity and exceptional craftsmanship.
The piece is in good antique condition, with minor wear consistent with age and careful use. Measuring approximately 49 1/4 inches in overall height, with the jardiniere itself standing 12 3/4 inches high, the pedestal 36 1/2 inches high, and the jardiniere measuring 14 inches in diameter, this set commands attention as a decorative centerpiece. Its combination of vibrant coloration, intricate floral detail, and monumental scale makes it a remarkable example of French Art Nouveau majolica and a distinguished addition to any collection of decorative ceramics. -
