Description
A finely crafted Louis XVI–style writing table by André Mailfert, produced in France during the mid-twentieth century. Executed in walnut, this elegant piece reflects the high standards of craftsmanship associated with Mailfert, a celebrated restorer and maker known for historically faithful furniture in the classical French tradition.
The table opens with a single front drawer and rests on four sheathed legs terminating in bronze sabots, connected by a lower shelf. The shelf bears the distinctive fire stamp of the salamander, Mailfert’s signature mark, confirming authorship. The top is framed in brass and fitted with Havana-colored leather, enriched with iron-gilded ornaments that provide refined decorative contrast. A bronze escutcheon completes the façade, and the lock functions properly with its original key.
The proportions are balanced and architectural, offering both elegance and usability. The walnut surface shows light wear consistent with age, contributing to a warm and authentic patina. Ideal for a study, bedroom, or library, this writing table combines decorative refinement, historical reference, and excellent functional quality.
This is an antique and having been around for a long time, it will show signs of wear. Antique pieces have very much sought-after character and associated flaws. Please review photos for condition & contact us with questions! -
