Description
This rare pair of easy chairs, model Örenäs, was designed by Danish architect and furniture designer Ib Kofod-Larsen and produced by OPE Möbler in Sweden during the 1950s. The chairs feature a solid teak frame with smooth, sculptural lines that reveal a rich patina, enhancing the natural depth and warmth of the wood grain. The original cognac brown leather upholstery is detailed with button tufting on the backrest, adding texture and structural definition to the seating surfaces. Both the seat and back cushions remain in their original state, displaying wear consistent with their vintage age.
The frame’s design incorporates a slightly reclined backrest and gently curved armrests, focusing on ergonomic comfort and relaxed seating posture. The rear of the chairs showcases horizontal wooden slats that provide essential structural stability while contributing to an open and airy silhouette, a hallmark of Scandinavian modern design. These slats emphasize the craftsmanship and the balance between form and function.
The chairs measure 81 centimeters in width, 85 centimeters in depth, and 95 centimeters in height (approximately 31.9 by 33.5 by 37.4 inches), with a seating height of 41 centimeters (16.1 inches). This pair exemplifies Kofod-Larsen’s skillful integration of organic forms, high-quality materials, and functional comfort within mid-century Scandinavian furniture design.
