Description
FRENCH GILDED IRON SET OF THREE NESTING TABLES
Circa 1950s | with mirrored glass tops
19 1/2" H x 24 1/2" W x 16" D
18 1/2" H x 23" W x 16" D
17 1/2" H x 21 1/4" W x 16" D
An elegant and sculptural set of three stacking or "nesting" tables in painted and gilt iron, each with a rectangular mirrored top set within a raised rim raised over a scrolling base. The iron frames are endlessly curving with tightly wound volutes and interlocking elliptical forms. They probably originate in France in the 1950s, each reflecting the Hollywood Regency design aesthetic of the post-war era. The nesting of the three tables serves the dual purpose of functionality, allowing an expanded serving area when needed, but also more critically it gives some shape and texture to the interior by breaking up the space a bit from what is typically expected in a side table. Very strong presence.
Condition: painted iron refreshed over the years and presents with wear, light oxidization and discoloration; mirrored glass with silvering loss and scratches (these can be replaced upon request, but actually present quite nicely with some "patina"); sturdy and stable.
