Description
The Collision floor lamp is constructed with fiberglass over a wooden skeleton, and finished in plaster. The lamp features a stem created from bent steel tubing. The lamp switch is made from domestic red oak and finished in linseed oil. The design was created by computer simulation of soft fabric subjected to the forces of gravity and inflation. The soft fabric then collides with a solid primitive geometry. The resulting collision creates the form of each pendant, and the primitive geometry is embedded as a light source. Through this process the collision series reveals the hidden complexity that emerges at the intersection of light, material and form; resulting in a presence that is both natural and uncanny. Each element of the design has been meticulously hand-crafted by the artist.
