Description
From the iconic Cannon Shell series by Paavo Tynell, this striking piece carries the dynamic silhouette of a falling shell, softened by delicate floral details gracefully applied along the shaft. The fully brass body is adorned with finely crafted flower decorations, intersected by a soft champagne-toned glass shade that conceals the light sources. The illumination is directed upward while diffusing gently downward through the glass and reflecting off the ceiling, creating a warm and atmospheric glow. A sculptural statement designed to elevate refined interiors.
The lamp has been professionally polished and restored. Some of the floral elements have been remade according to the original measurements, respecting the integrity of the design. The glass shade is of a later date.
Paavo Tynell (1890–1973) was one of the leading figures of Finnish lighting design and co-founder of Taito Oy. Often referred to as the man who “illuminated Finland,” his work bridges Nordic classicism and mid-century modernism, combining refined brass craftsmanship with nature-inspired ornamentation. His lighting was commissioned for major public interiors, including the Finnish Parliament House and Finland House in New York, and today his designs are regarded among the most collectible works in Scandinavian lighting. -
