'Ulysse à Blois' Renaissance Style Earthenware Dish, France, 19th Century.

A wonderful and very colorful neoclassical (revival) dish in Renaissance style by the renowned faience factory 'Ulysse à Blois'.

Depicting a salamander with a crown - referring to king Francis I (1494–1547), the Renaissance king most closely associated with Blois and the Loire Valley. Blois was one of Francis I’s royal residences and the Château de Blois is also covered with salamanders.

A wonderful decorative dish to use as a display piece, but also usable as a vide poche or serving piece.

Great condition with a little chip on the back - hardly visible at the front. Can be hung and placed.
