Description
Striking and sculptural, this 1960s organic modern sofa embodies the expressive forms and tactile materials that defined avant-garde interior design of the period. The sofa features a fluid, biomorphic silhouette that feels both architectural and inviting, with generous curves that create a strong visual presence while maintaining a relaxed elegance.
The piece is upholstered in luxurious long-hair sheepskin, whose dramatic pile softens the form and adds remarkable texture. The length of the wool subtly conceals the base, creating the illusion that the sofa floats just above the floor—an effect that enhances the lightness and sculptural quality of the design.
Supporting the form are solid birch legs fitted with inset glides. The legs remain largely hidden beneath the sheepskin upholstery, reinforcing the floating appearance while providing a stable foundation.
This sofa was acquired from the collection of a prominent Dallas investment firm owner and noted collector of modern design whose career spanned the 1950s through the 1980s. Pieces from this collection reflect a discerning eye for sculptural modern furnishings and high-quality materials.
A compelling example of mid-century organic modern design, the sofa combines luxurious texture with an elegant floating profile, making it equally suited to sophisticated contemporary interiors or curated modernist spaces.
The sofa presents in very good vintage condition with light wear consistent with age and use. -
