Description
This rare pair of easy chairs, produced in Finland during the 1950s, exemplifies mid-century Scandinavian design principles through its functional form and material use. The chairs feature a solid birch frame, notable for its natural warm grain and sculptural quality, supporting original black leather upholstery. The leather is preserved in its original state, displaying an aged patina and tufted detailing that add texture and depth, while signs of wear reflect the chairs’ vintage character. The design emphasizes ergonomic comfort with a slightly reclined backrest, deep seating, and gently curved winged sides. The armrests are angular and sweeping, contributing to a dynamic silhouette typical of Nordic modernism from this period. The unknown designer’s approach aligns with the Finnish tradition of craftsmanship and minimalist aesthetics, where quality of materials and subtle structural elegance take precedence.
The chairs measure 63 cm in width, 78 cm in depth, and 85.5 cm in height, with a seat height of 38 cm, dimensions that balance presence with comfort in a domestic setting.
