French 18th Century Painted Parcel Gilt Chinoiserie Trumeau

$ 4,800
  • Description
    Dimensions: 52” H x 25” W x 2” D

    An exceptional carved and parcel gilt painted trumeau mirror, 18th century, France. The antique mirror features a dainty carved and gilt Chinoiserie-inspired foliate appliqué in the top panel of draped swags over a parasol. The blossoms and leaves are meticulously carved to varying depths for tactile contrast against the smooth aqua paint that infuses the back panel. Small, gilded rosettes punctuate the corners. Below, gilt molding defines the proportions of the original mirror plate which is veiled by a thin layer of foxing across the surface and several patches of dark oxidation/loss to the foil. Please view the detailed images to see more of this inspirational trumeau mirror.
