Description
Designed by Ercole Barovier for Barovier & Toso in the 1950s, this exquisite Murano art glass bowl is masterfully hand-blown in a luminous turquoise glass and richly infused with gold inclusions. The elegant organic form is accentuated by three artfully pinched points along the rim, creating a dynamic, sculptural silhouette. Showcasing Barovier's celebrated mastery of color, texture, and innovation, this refined work embodies the sophistication and technical brilliance of mid-century Venetian glass. This elegant and iconic midcentury glass will make a beautiful accent piece especially in this rare lovely turquoise color.
This Barovier art glass bowl was made in a technique called graffito, which was used in several series. It was a variation of the ancient fenicio technique in which a glass cane (covered with colored glass, gold layers or by some other means) is wrapped around the vase; then a layer of colorless glass was applied so that air was enclosed in the spiral. By combing the glass, a decorative pattern was obtained (Collection Marc Heiremans, Novecento, Antwerp). -
