Description
A handsome Louis Philippe walnut chest of drawers from the first half of the 19th century, this piece captures the graceful simplicity and warm elegance that define the period. The façade is beautifully shaped with softly curved uprights and a restrained architectural cornice, creating the classic Louis Philippe silhouette. Crafted in richly toned walnut, the chest displays a beautifully matured surface with deep natural grain movement and a warm, luminous patina developed over nearly two centuries.
The case opens with three generously scaled drawers, each fitted with turned pulls and original escutcheons that reinforce its understated refinement. Delicate inlaid motifs accent the curved side supports and lower blocks, adding subtle decorative sophistication without overwhelming the purity of form. The broad top offers excellent surface presence, making it equally practical as a bedroom commode, entry chest, or elegant storage piece in a living space.
Raised on classic Louis Philippe scroll feet, the chest combines visual softness with solid craftsmanship and balanced proportions. Its clean lines, rich walnut surface, and discreet inlay details make it an exceptionally versatile 19th century French piece, equally compelling in traditional interiors or layered into more contemporary settings for warmth and historic depth.
This is an antique and having been around for a long time, it will show signs of wear. Antique pieces have very much sought-after character and associated flaws. Please review photos for condition & contact us with questions! -
