Description
Ercole Barovier for Barovier & Toso "Porpora" large Murano glass bowl, Italy, 1960s. This exceptional centerpiece showcases Barovier's celebrated Porpora technique, distinguished by its richly textured surface and luminous, jewel-like coloration. Expertly hand-blown in Murano, the bowl features a substantial organic form with thick, sculptural walls and a gently flared rim. The glass shimmers with intricate aventurine-like inclusions and subtle tonal variations, creating remarkable depth and brilliance as it catches the light. A masterful example of Venetian artistry, this impressive bowl embodies the innovation, elegance, and technical virtuosity that made Barovier one of the most influential glass designers of the 20th century. Ideal as a statement centerpiece or as part of an important collection of Murano glass.
Introduced in 1954, the "Porpora" series is characterized by its deep pink or purple hue achieved through colorazione a caldo senza fusione (warm coloring without fusion), a technique Barovier perfected to add color to glass while it is in a molten state.
