Description
Elegant circular side table combining a thick, parchment‑clad top and two graduated shelves in pale goatskin with boldly sculpted uprights in richly figured dark wood. The creamy vellum surface has a soft, matte sheen that contrasts beautifully with the deep, linear grain of the vertical supports, giving the piece a strong graphic presence while remaining understated and refined. A shallow, curved frieze drawer with warm wood interior is fitted with a simple vertical metal pull, preserving the purity of the cylindrical form and offering discreet storage.
The design reflects the vocabulary of Décoration Intérieure Moderne, the influential Parisian decorating firm founded in 1919 by designers such as René Joubert and Philippe Petit. Working closely with leading architects, artists, and craftsmen of the interwar period, DIM became known for luxurious yet rigorously modern interiors that favored noble materials—exotic woods, parchment, and metals—over applied ornament. This table’s emphasis on pure geometry, carefully balanced volumes, and the tactile richness of goatskin and fine veneer is characteristic of furniture created for DIM’s sophisticated clientele, who commissioned ensembles for chic Parisian apartments, hôtels particuliers, and ocean liners.
Both sculptural and practical, the table offers generous display space on its two open shelves, making it ideal as a side or service table in a living room, library, or bedroom. The restrained decoration and timeless cylindrical silhouette allow it to pair effortlessly with other high‑quality Art Deco pieces or to introduce an elegant note of French modernism into more contemporary interiors. - More Information
