Description
A calm and well-balanced design defines this set of dining chairs. The focus lies on proportion, material, and ease of use rather than decoration.
Design
The model 273 chairs, attributed to Franco Asnaghi, show a clear and functional approach to design. The frames are made from multiplex, visible in the layered edges along the curved sides and backrest. This construction allows for the smooth, flowing shape that defines the chair. The side panels rise in a gentle curve and connect to a broad backrest, creating a continuous line. Seats and backs are upholstered in warm brown faux leather, offering comfort and a soft contrast to the wood. The structure is straightforward, with stretchers adding strength while keeping the design open. The use of multiplex reflects a wider shift in post-war Italian furniture, where bent wood techniques allowed for more organic forms without complicating production. Around a table, the chairs create a consistent and grounded presence.
A practical and thoughtful design that relies on shape and material rather than excess detail. The set works well as a group and sits easily in different interiors.
Condition
The condition is good, with visible wear to the faux leather. Three backrests show clear damage to the upholstery; reupholstery could be considered depending on preference, though the set still retains a warm and coherent appearance.
We recommend re-upholstery and can assist with that. -
