Description
Designed in the 1950s by Carlo Hauner, this rare floating bar or sideboard showcases Hauner’s early mastery of proportion, material, and refined detail. Executed in richly grained Brazilian rosewood, the piece is conceived to be wall-mounted, creating a striking floating effect that reinforces the modernist pursuit of visual lightness.
The rectangular form houses two doors opening to four interior compartments fitted with adjustable glass shelves, offering flexible storage for barware or display. Original brass keys—an identifying feature of Hauner’s early wood designs—remain intact and beautifully preserved, along with the original hardware. The rosewood has been expertly refinished, revealing vibrant grain patterns and warm tonal depth. A makers mark and tax stamp located on the back confirms authenticity.
Elegant and architectural, this piece reflects Brazilian Modernism’s dialogue with European rationalism while asserting a distinctly Brazilian material richness and domestic sensibility. -
