Description
Crafted in France during the mid-twentieth century, this basketry ensemble brings together five bowls, three baskets and a woven side table, all executed in natural fibers using traditional weaving techniques. Varied in scale and form yet visually cohesive, the pieces are united by their rhythmic textures, sculptural silhouettes and naturally developed patina. Together they demonstrate the enduring refinement of French vernacular craftsmanship and the aesthetic potential of everyday utilitarian objects.
Originally created for domestic use, the ensemble is now appreciated as a compelling example of French folk art. The dialogue between open bowls, enclosed basket forms and the distinctive side table creates a balanced composition that highlights the relationship between form, function and material. Presented as a unified group, the ensemble brings a sense of warmth, texture and quiet authenticity to both contemporary and historic interiors.
