Harp Chair by Jørgen Høvelskov for Christensen & Larsen, Denmark, 1960s

$ 10,000
  • Description
    Designed by Jørgen Høvelskov in 1968 and produced by Christensen & Larsen, the Harp Chair is one of the most recognisable achievements of Danish modern furniture design. Inspired by the form and tension of a harp, the chair features a sculptural solid ash frame supporting a hand-corded seat and backrest. The graceful curvature of the wooden structure creates a striking architectural presence while allowing the woven cords to appear almost suspended in space.

    Høvelskov belonged to a generation of Danish designers who expanded the language of Scandinavian modernism beyond strict functionalism, introducing greater sculptural freedom while maintaining an unwavering commitment to craftsmanship. The Harp Chair exemplifies this approach through its harmonious balance of structure, comfort and visual lightness. Today, it remains an enduring icon of twentieth-century Danish design, admired for its innovative construction, distinctive silhouette and timeless elegance.
