$ 15,000
  • Description
    A rare metal box called "Holopherne" in silvered cast bronze by Parisian art jeweler Line Vautrin (1913-1997). Made in 1946-47, this is a relatively scarce piece with the design motif based on the biblical heroic story of Judith, who used her beauty and bravery beheaded Holofernes, the general of the invading Assyrian army into Kingdom of Judah. This box features a severed head of Holofernes, a handled blade which was used by Judith, a shell symbol of catholic pilgrimage associated with St James and a bow and arrow, which briefed the book of Judith, set on a broken fragment of barricade, which alludes to the bravery act of Judith who filtrated the enemy's camp. The box is lined with cork. It is impressed branded Line Vautrin on the base.
