Description
A commissioned ceiling lamp designed by Paavo Tynell and made to order by Taito, dating from the early 1950s. The piece features its original mouth-blown glass shade in a warm champagne tone. The glass diffuser is held by an organic hexagon shaped perforated brass sheet and a spring decorated brass pin. The upper part is similar to the cannon shell lamp structure from the 90xx series.
The lamp is in its original condition with its original glass. The brass has a stunning patina. The electrical wirings have been updated to modern standards. The lamp is stamped to the ceiling bracket.
This piece was part of an interior that had all lamps that were designed by Tynell.
Paavo Tynell (1890–1973) was one of Finland’s most influential lighting designers, celebrated for his refined use of brass and his ability to combine functionality with poetic form. A co-founder of Taito Oy in 1918, he played a key role in shaping Finnish lighting design as electricity became widespread. His work gained international recognition in the postwar years, particularly in the United States, and today his rare and commissioned pieces are highly sought after by collectors worldwide -
