Description
A stunning vintage, if not antique, four panel Japanese byobu ("wind shield") with gold foil background mounted on a wood fibre form, framed in lacquered wood with protective and supporting ornate metal work. The motif is hand painted glorious cherry blossoms on a spiny trunk and branches. This is bordered with floral brocade silk. The artist has signed in the lower right of the final panel. The panels are flawlessly hinged with paper. The reverse is patterned paper.
