Pair of Model "E8655" Hanging Lamps by Fog & Mørup, Denmark ca 1940s

With their origins in a small workshop in Aarhus, Fog & Mørup was founded by Ansgar Fog and Erik Mørup. The company grew their reputation gradually, and by the 1930s and 40s, were one of the most well-known manufacturers in Denmark. Many of their most successful models explored the relationship between light, structure, and ornament, resulting in fixtures that functioned as decorative objects even when unlit, and this hanging lamp model is the perfect example.

Model “E8655” stands apart through its remarkably graphic composition. Suspended from slender stems, the fixtures culminate in radial arrangements that resemble flowers, propellers, or stylised sun representations. Lights in varying lengths extend outward from a dark central structure, creating a striking contrast that emphasizes the geometry of the design. Unlike other ceiling lights that conceal their mechanics through big shades and diffusers, these fixtures celebrate construction and form, allowing every component to contribute to the overall visual effect. The bodies of the lamp showcase the Art Deco bold and glamorous forms of the 1940s, while the patina of the brass reminds us of their history. The horizontal orientation gives the lights a broad presence, unafraid to define the space they occupy.

Fog & Mørup continued to expand steadily through World War II, and by the second half of the 20th century, it had reached international recognition. As examples of Danish lighting from the 1940s, these pieces demonstrate a willingness to experiment with form while retaining the elegance and restraint that would later become hallmarks of Scandinavian design.

Condition:
In good vintage condition. Wear consistent with age and use. The lamps have recently been rewired and reconditioned. Due to the nature and age of the materials, the lamps may have minor marks, scratches, and discolouration. This pair of lights require special light bulbs, which will be included. All lighting can be converted for US usage.
