Description
Dimensions: 32 ⅛” H x 53 ½” W x 22 ¼” D
An English, solid oak mule chest from the mid-18th century or earlier, this heavy storage trunk has a paneled exterior darkened to a rich mahogany that adds further depth to the antique storage trunk. The clever design is an adaptation on the coffer, adding convenient drawers on the bottom for quick access to smaller items. Its lid opens on hand-forged iron hinges to a deep and wide storage compartment fitted with a candle box on the right, over a pair of small drawers hidden by a plank that pivots. There is an iron escutcheon mounted on the frieze between the initials of “EL” however no key is present. The lower drawers glide easily using their pairs of ornate pendant pulls which match the decorative keyholes (the locks have been removed). This cherished antique has been gently cleaned and polished with a French paste wax to maintain it for future generations. We believe this to be in good antique condition considering its age, and any visible signs of wear are captured in the photos. Please view the detailed image gallery for the current condition and message us with any questions. -
