French 19th Century Empire Mahogany Desk, Refinished

Dimensions: 30 ½” H x 55” W x 29 ¼” D

A handsome French Empire desk made of mahogany that has been recently refinished to preserve the beautiful color and grain of the wood. The top surface is a gold-tooled leather in a weathered cognac tone that underscores the luxurious qualities of this commanding writing desk which is finished on the backside to float in a room. Two leaves hidden at each end slide out to add 12” of working surface. The case is organized as two small drawers to the left, a wide drawer at the center, and one deep drawer to the right, using working locks and two keys included. Four thick legs brace the mass of the table which are accented by collars of brass around the capitals and bases embossed with typical Empire motifs. Elegant stretchers in a convex, curved formation join the legs just above the feet. Gently refinished to maintain every historic feature. We believe this to be in good antique condition considering the age, and any visible signs of wear are captured in the photos.
