American, early 20th c.
Carved and painted wood, sheet metal feathers, tack eyes and solid metal legs.
In untouched original condition, some losses to areas around joints and paint loss, most likely due to weathering.
This exceptional pair of heron decoys capture the spirit of American folk art. Assembled and crafted by a self-taught artist, they exhibit both the whimsical nature and unique character from the artist’s perspective, yet they were most likely created to be used to attract other birds.
